Highfield Assessment is on the move

It was a hugely successful 2019 for Highfield Assessment, as it firmly established itself as the go-to end-point assessment organisation (EPAO) for businesses across the country.

And now the team is on the move to our new, larger premises at ICON to accommodate our growing assessment and support team (you can take a look at some pics of the new office in the slideshow below).

So, what made 2019 so special? Our figures speak for themselves.

You can see why we’ve had to move to a new office, with 2020 promising to be an even bigger and better year. But this change doesn’t mean we’ll lose the personal touch and exceptional customer service we’re known to provide. We’re still committed to answering all calls within three rings and responding to emails within 24 hours.

In fact, here’s what our customers have to say:

‘Highfield provides a flexible and professional end-point assessment service that has been tailored to our needs. Their guidance and support helps to prepare our apprentices for their assessments, which is demonstrated in the incredible results they achieve.’

‘We have worked with Highfield for a number of years and have had nothing but positive experiences. PRESS RELEASE: Support for protective services on apprenticeships

Organisations working in protective services looking to make the most of their apprenticeship levy contributions will now have help from one of the UK’s leading awarding organisations.

Highfield Qualifications has been approved by the government to provide end-point assessment (EPA) services for the new Custody and Detention Officer Standard, and will be offering employers a full range of assessment services to help them achieve the most from their apprenticeship levy payments.

The introduction of the apprenticeship levy in 2017 means larger employers have to pay into a central fund that must be used for apprenticeship training, while smaller employers can claim 90 per cent of their apprenticeship costs from the government.

The changes also mean new apprenticeship standards like those in security now use EPA instead of continuous assessment, requiring individual apprentices to have their work and competence assessed towards the end of their learning against criteria established by groups of employers known as ‘trailblazers’.

Jason Sprenger, Highfield Chief Executive, said, ‘Many employers are coming to terms with the introduction of the new apprenticeship standards and in particular the apprenticeship levy, so we understand that it is a complex and changing training environment for many.

Highfield’s approach has been to do the hard work, so employers don’t have to. With our recognition as an end-point assessment organisation, we are in a position to provide specific assessment services for those businesses already taking on apprentices or considering it.

He added, ‘Apprentices are great for business and can provide a welcome boost to staff development and productivity when it is most needed, but it’s vital that organisations understand from day one how to make sure the changes are of benefit to them and their employees’.

Important update to first aid qualifications

First Aid ResponseFirst aid qualifications are changing – with new requirements for tutors, assessors and IQA from later in the year.

The changes, which come into effect from 1 October 2015, will see a number of updates implemented designed to improve the rigour of first aid training qualifications and safeguard learners.

Details of the changes include requirements that:

  • Tutors hold regulated teaching or training qualifications
  • Assessors have a formal (regulated) assessing qualification
  • IQAs will need to achieve a formal (regulated) IQA qualification

Where assessors and IQAs do not hold the required qualifications, they will need to undertake first-aid assessor/IQA CPD training with an Awarding Organisation.

Further details of the tutor/assessor and IQA qualifications can be found within the qualification specification for any of the HABC first aid at work qualifications or within the Skills for Health assessment principle document.

HABC account managers are currently reviewing all tutor certificates held on the HABC system. Tutors/assessors that do not fulfil the requirements by 1 October 2015 will not be able to be selected by Centres when posting a course.

For more information, contact your HABC account manager.

The event follows the guidance issued by Skills For Health in regards to formal first aid CPD training (as opposed to previous first aid orientation sessions), and whilst not mandatory, will be of use to anyone looking for the latest guidance on assessing and internally quality assuring first aid qualifications.

Cost per delegate is £50 plus VAT for HABC Approved Centres and £65 plus VAT for non-Centres.
