Apprenticeship frameworks in the land-based sector are under review, and the body leading the review, Lantra, is looking for your help.
Public consultations are now underway for the new draft frameworks for agriculture, land-based engineering, trees and timber, horticulture, and environmental conservation.
As part of the review, it is important that feedback is provided by training providers, employers, employer organisations, trade unions and apprentices to get a full picture of the suitability of the proposed changes to the frameworks.
The consultation closes on 4 February 2020.

HABC has added to its suite of land-based qualifications with the launch of the HABC Level 2 Diploma in Work-Based Horticulture (QCF) ((601/2331/X), joining three Level 1 qualifications launched earlier in the year.
Aimed at learners 16 and over either working or looking to work in the horticulture sector, the qualification covers the knowledge, understanding and skills required across many different areas of horticulture and includes six key pathways:
- Production and Commercial Horticulture;
- Sports Turf (Greenkeeper or Groundsman);
- Parks, Gardens and Green Space; or
The qualification is recognised by the British Association of Landscape Industries (BALI) as meeting the criteria for its LISS/CSCS (Land-based Industry Skills Scheme/Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card, which is a mandatory requirement for employees of companies which are quality assured to National Highways Sector Scheme 18 (NHSS18), and which allows them to bid for Highways Agency ‘national roads’ contracts that cost more than £10m and are publically or public/private partnership funded.
It can also be used to form part of the Intermediate Level Apprenticeship in Horticulture (England) which is issued by Lantra (and can be delivered on a stand-alone basis), and is included in the Welsh equivalent of the horticulture apprenticeship framework.
An Apprenti-kit to support learners is available, and which can be purchased from the Highfield.co.uk website.
